Assessment

LABS

AT 309 Lab 13 PIX4D GCP Lab

 1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)

4, I have been using Pix4D for a few years, and have done some with GCPs, but not alot

 2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

4 I knew almost all that was in this lab, except for coordinate systems, as the auto has worked for me consistently.

3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)

5 it was beneficial to have every student actually process data, it would be helpful to get better reasoning to why the GCPs were needed for this flight

 4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend making the activity even better?

Doing a video lecture to walk through how to get to each section in Pix4D, as I had to work with and help a few other students with this lab to complete it.

AT 309 Lab 12 Pix4D Lab

 1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)

5, I have been using Pix4D for a few years

4 it was beneficial to have every student actually process data, but please get more into the analysis of the data collected more.

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend making the activity even better?

Provide realistic time estimates. I personally wasn't bothered, as the Mavic 2 one took 2:30 to process, but lots of other students were complaining that the lab took far too long.

AT 309 Lab 11 Pix4D Inro

 1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)

5 I have been using Pix4D intermittently for the past few years.

2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

4 I could teach someone else how to use Pix4D and have, but I don't know all the small details

3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)

1 looking at the various videos is helpful, but not a hands-on way to learn

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend making the activity even better?

Drop the video-based questions and provide the students with a very basic set and let them begin with that, and use the videos or a lecture to guide them. Showing a student where the applications help the section is good, but that's not why we pay to go to college. Give us some sort of material to supplement that.

AT 309 Lab 10 ARC Collector

 1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)

3 I had some knowledge about using an application to record GPS points for processing maps later.

2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

4 I could teach someone else how to use arc collector

3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)

4 it was beneficial to go out and use the app.

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend making the activity even better?

It would be better if we were tasked to map a park with a drone then use the app to trace the paths and note any features at the park.

AT 309 Lab 9 Coordinate Systems and Projections

 1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)

1 I had almost no Knowledge about various coordinate systems and projections

2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

2. I know a bit more, but am unsure why this is important to UAS

3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)

1; this really didn't add anything to what I learned, this was just another Quiz

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend making the activity even better?

Teach the class don't just post another teachers slide from 2006 without any relation to UAS.

AT 309 Lab 8 Datums

 1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)

2 I did not have much knowledge about datums

2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

3. I know a bit more, but am unsure why this is important to UAS

3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)

3; this really didn't add much to the amount I was able to learn

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend making the activity even better?

"Note: for data to be survey grade, it must be certified by a licensed surveyor" Talk more about this process, otherwise, it is really pointless for us to be calibrating the data from my understanding.

AT 309 Lab 7 Measure Ground Control

 1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)

4 its an application

2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

5 its an application; if it's challenging, its designed wrong.

3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)

1 this was not hands-on, and there was not much to learn, watching a video and looking through slides is not hands-on, getting the app and being told to create X Y, and Z flights in these locations with the various platforms will teach more and be actually useful.

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend making the activity even better?

Let the student access the application to learn it, this can be a homework assignment; it doesn't need to be a full lab.

AT 309 Lab 6 Field Outing

 1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)

5 I have been running flights and actual operations of UAS for a while now.

2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

5 Nothing new was learned in this flight operation.

3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)

Normally I would rank a field operation with a high number as that was what you learn the most. As issues and differences arise, they are discussed and overcome. This was not one of those times, as this operation was confusing, as no one in the 309 class was told about the flight plans and the goals of the operations. No one in the class had seen or used the aircraft checklist prior to going out in the field, and therefore was confused. 1

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend making the activity even better?

Have a class prior to discussing field operations and standard procedures. Once you get to the site, give another more detailed overview of the operation and expected outcome. Do the operations/missions. Finish with a discussion on how ops went, what didn't work, what worked, and things to change and or do next time.

AT 309 Lab 5 DoakBurn/Intro to ArcPro GIS

 1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)

5 This particular lab and dataset were processed in AT209, the lab was almost identical.

2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

5 AT209

3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)

Repeating this lab from AT 209 had no benefit to me, so I learned nothing. 1.

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend making the activity even better?

Not repete the lab, as it was almost identical to the 209 labs.

AT 309 Lab 4 ERSI Landsat

 1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)

I would rank myself a 2, as I know a bit about satellite imagery, but did not know about ERSI Landsat.

2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

3, I know enough to redo the lab if require, but I could not utilize the application for operations in conjunction with UAS effectively.

3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)

I would rank this a 3 as I have no real idea on why this was a lab that we did and where it connects to UAS, and some guidance on that would be beneficial

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend making the activity even better?

Have it more focused on the applications of how it integrates with UAS, I feel like I am saying this every time, but I cannot tie this into any regular use cases for UAS operations.

AT 309 Lab 3 ARC GIS Earth Intro

 1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)

I would put myself at a solid 3 to 3.5, as I cannot remember all the smaller details, but I already learned the bast majority of this in the prior year.

2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

4, I could easily teach someone how to use arc gis earth and I am now using it in some of my advanced operations for estimating line of sight for long-range testing.

3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)

3 The hands-on activity of going through hilarious tutorials were no different than learning on one's own, so no real benefit to this way.

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend making the activity even better?

Incorporate more information about how this can be used with UAS data and why it is better than just going out in the field and checking if you have a line of sight elevation, etc.

AT 309 Lab 2 The Digital Transformation

 1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)

I would rate myself a 4 on the digital transformation, as most people my age use all of these different types of technology daily.

2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

4 I could teach anyone else about the topics covered in this class

3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)

2 this approach of researching the different uses of the digital transformation didn't add much, if anything, to the lessons

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend making the activity even better?

Reduce the amount of content in this lab, as the number of sources required to write about was excessive, and diving deeper into a single topic and having students share about their topic and respond to others sharing about their topics would be more reasonable.

Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)

AT 309 Lab 1 Creating A Blog

 1. Before this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)

I would rate myself a 4 as I manage my own webpage and have been writing blogs for AT 219 and AT209 for the past 2 semesters.

2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

I would also rate myself a 4 as I feel like I could walk another student through setting up their blog and get them up and running, although there might be a few issues along the way that I would have to consult others on.

3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity adds to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)

I think it would be a 3 as I had already set up my blog from prior classes and did some small tweaks and updates to improve it.

4. What types of learning strategies, would you recommend making the activity even better?
